A colourful (and loud) addition to Merrickville Canalfest in 2001 were the re-enactors of the Brockville Infantry Company of the 1860s. This dedicated group wears exact replicas of the bright red British tunics. The tunics that they wear were manufactured by a military tailor in Toronto and custom leatherwork was handcrafted locally in Brockville. The group uses working replicas of 1853 Enfield black powder muzzle-loading muskets imported from the U.S. This attention to detail plus hours and hours of drilling has created an authentic experience of what British infantry in the mid-1800s looked like.

Canalfest in Merrickville is an annual event, usually taking place in mid-July.
