Friends of the Rideau
Wood's Mill Complex

photo by: Ken W. Watson, 2000

Visitors viewing the front of this complex from a boat or a passing car may not appreciate its relationship to the Rideau River. The river now passes through the weir visible on the right, maintained by the Smiths Falls' Waterworks (the main weir on the south side of Jason Island is maintained by Parks Canada). The Rideau Canal Museum is housed in the granary. The Parks Canada Rideau Canal offices are on the left. The rushing waters of the river are in contrast to the tranquil waters boaters experience as they gently travel through Smiths Falls.
