Interpretation Associate

Friends of the Rideau is a not-for-profit community-based organization working to enhance and conserve the heritage and charm of the Rideau Canal. Our work includes the operation of The Depot Visitor and Interpretation Centre, in Merrickville during the summer months.
Friends of the Rideau is looking to employ two students to staff The Depot in Merrickville from mid-June to Labour Day weekend. The work involves the following main duties:
Meet and greet visitors
Provide information on the Rideau Canal
Provide information on the Merrickville Lockstation
Provide information on the Village of Merrickville
Market Friends’ publications and Rideau-themed souvenirs
Assist visitors to plan itineraries to other sites along the Rideau Canal
Prepare reports on visitor experience, visitor numbers and identify issues for attention
The positions will be of particular interest to post-secondary students in history, heritage studies, hospitality or tourism, with experience in boating & canoeing. Experience with visitor interpretation service would be an asset. The jobs will involve a five-day work week which will from time to time cover weekends and holidays.
Must have a dynamic personality, be outgoing and people oriented. Proficiency in spoken French will be an asset.
